Comparison of Double Layer Capacitors and Batteries

For many years,rechargeable batteries are the only solution for temporary memory back of data of timing clock in various electronic devices.They are also been used as an emergency or short-term Secondary power source during the events when the ptimary power source is not sufficient.

许多年以来,可充电池都是作为数据暂存后备电源或者在许多的电子时钟设计的唯一解决办法。它们也作为当主电源断电或供应不足时的紧急或短时的第二电源。

In the recent years,due to the advance in the capacitor development,the double laver capacitors (DLC) have become a viable alternative solution to the rechargeable batteries.ELNA has introduced a full range of double layer capacitors (Dynacap) to meet the requirements of various designs.The Dynacap ranges from 0.047F up to 100F, with voltages from 2.5V to 6.3V (depending on the series).And they come in various shapes to fit the space consideration of the desiners.The information below is a comparison of pros and cons between the rechargeable batteries and double laver
capacitors(DLC).

Capacity:
For any given size,the energy storage capacity of the rechargeable batteries are still many times greater than he DLC of the same size.

容量:
在某些特定的尺寸里,可充电池的能量储存还是比相同尺寸的DLC大许多倍。

Since rechargeable batteries usually contain heavy metals.They generally Weight much more than the DLC.The difference becomes more apparent as the size increase,a rechargeable batteries could weight more than twice of a DLC of the same size.

重量:

Recharge Time:
Since rechargeable batteries stores energy bychemical reactions,it generally takes much longer to recharge.On the other hand,the DLC stores energy by the movemnt ofions,it could be 60% to 80% charge in just 30 to 60 seconds.

充电时间:
由于可充电池是靠化学反应来存储能量,所以它们再次充电一般都会耗时很长。而DLC是依靠电离子的运动来存储能量,它们只需30到60秒钟就可以充电到60%到80%的电量。

Recharge Cycles:
Rechargeable batteries have about 500 tO 1000 life cycles.After been charge and recharged for a few hundred times,the capacity of the batteries would star to decrease,and finally lost most of their storage.capacity.The DLC could be charged and discharge for more than 1 million times without any reduction to its energy storage capacity.

可充次数(周期)
可充电池大概有500到1000次的使用周期。在使用次数达到几百次之后,电池的容量便会开始减少,直到最后丢失它的大部分存储能量。而DLC能够反复充/放电超过100万次以上,而不会减少它的存储电量。

Charging Current:
When a rechargeable batteries is used.Some current limiting circuit is usually needed to prevent any rush charging current from damaging the battery.The DLC has no limitation for the charging current,as long as the charging voltage does not exceed the rate voltage of the double layer capacitor.(When a DLC is charged,the two terminals could even be shorted without causing any damage.)

充电电流:
当一个充电电池用旧了之后,通常要用一些有电流限制的电路防止一些来自冲击的充电电流来破坏电池。而DLC没有对充电电流作出限制,当然,充电电压也不允许超过电容(DLC)本身的额定电压的两倍。(当一个DLC被充电后,它的两极甚至可以短路而不会发生危险)
